ER for the Car

Yesterday I received one of those calls a mother never want to get. It was the end of the day and my family was beginning to return home from a days work. Naomi had stopped by the farm to get Beth. As they left the farm they got into some loose gravel on the dirt road which pulled them toward the ditch. They rolled the car once. Beth hit her head but the injury was minor and there was not even any swelling. The girls were able to walk away from the accident.

There are many blessings and evidences of the protective care of guardian angels that surrounded them during this experience. First of all, the car rolled almost perfectly like a ball when it was upside down. The roof is actually curved now. If they had been going any other speed when they hit the ditch, one side of the car would have taken a stronger impact. This likely would have resulted in more serious injuries and possibly being trapped in the car. I am so thankful for this blessing.

Another blessing in all of this was the immediate appearance of another vehicle on a road that is seldom used. I cannot list the number of times I have been up and down that road and never seen anyone. And yet with in minutes of the accident, the girls were assisted by a kindly farmer who drove by. Thanks to his kindness they were able to get through to me on the phone to let me know what had happened. For some reason Naomi's phone was not making a full connection when she tried calling me. So the appearance of this man was indeed a blessing.

It was also a blessing that the car rolled to the east side of the road instead of the west. In that particular location there's a mighty tree that grows on the west side of the road directly across from where they went in the ditch. The ditch is also a little steeper over there. The accident would have been decidedly worse if they had hit the tree. As it was, the car landed in a recently swath and bailed field. There were no crops to damage and nothing in the way to abruptly stop a free roll.

Yet another blessing was that the car landed on all four wheels. They were bent badly and of course it will not drive anymore, but having landed on the wheels allowed the girls to be free of the car within minutes of when it stopped rolling. Also, the driver's door was inexplicably open when the car landed. The passenger door would not open. Had the drivers door been latched it would not have opened either, but because it was already open they were able to easily exit the car.

Since I am not in the habit of analyzing car accidents, I am quite certain that there are a number of other blessings granted our family in preservation of our dear daughters that I am completely unaware of. But whether I know the specifics of such things or not, I know that God's hand and his influence was there at that scene.

The support of family and friends has been extensive. We are so grateful for these associations that enrich our lives and help us through times of trouble.

By the time that the police had made their report and we were permitted to return home an hour had passed. The girls grabbed a quick bite to eat and then we went into the hospital to ensure that there were no injuries that have not been detected. Once again simply accompanying them to the hospital was a blessing. There was no bedside vigil, deep anxiety, or undue worry for their welfare. Even where Beth had hit her head, had nothing more than 3 tiny little scratches. It took a while at the hospital, as it always does, but we were able to be home, together, safe and sound before too many hours had passed.

There have been many prayers of gratitude sent up to heaven. Our prayers will continue to ascend up to heaven as we glory in and praise our God for preserving these precious girls.
