November seems to be the month for getting organized around here. Of course with Christmas so close, my mind is often turned toward having things in order so that we can properly celebrate the birth of Christ. Last year (2013), I was busily engaged in helping a friend get organized. I sorted books, craft items and art supplies, finding places for everything as I went. I love to organize. It feels so good!
I often come across treasures as I work. Last year I came across a couple of quotes that seemed to be inspired.
To me this one describes a home beautifully, for it it truly through family, that eternity is discovered and earned. Those relationships are so precious that there should be nothing allowed to deteriorate them. Which leads to the second quote I found...
Our differences make us who we are! We should rejoice in our differences and forgive quickly when mistakes are made. When we make mistakes, it is our family that encourages us and supports us through those things that would prevent us from receiving the blessings of eternity. Thank you to a young missionary for his insights...
This year November has also been one of organization in our home, only this year, the degree of change has been extreme. We have changed nearly every bedroom in the house around. Doing so has affected EVERY room in the basement plus the laundry room, summer kitchen and office. It has been a huge undertaking that actually started in the end of October and is now nearing completion. The pictures show just a hint of what has taken place...
We went from this, where everything is piled on the bed awaiting its new location to the picture below where the room things were moved to is mostly organized. Obviously the laundry will not stay on top of the dresser and has since been put away, but the level of organization has been greatly enjoyed!
Since that time we have worked every single day on organizing items to be easily accessible and easy to find. It's funny how over time, things seem to get scattered a bit. This organizing opportunity has given us a chance to get everything put away properly. We have discovered things we had thought were lost, and rejoiced in the finding of them. We have scrubbed, dusted, swept and mopped and the results are most rewarding.
I am so grateful for opportunities to clean deeply. Sometimes it takes a prolonged and concentrated effort to do so, but it is SO worth it all! Life is like that too. Sometimes we need to re-prioritize and get back on track, discarding habits and ideas that are not productive or useful to our eternal well-being. The atonement helps me do this in my life. I am so grateful for the cleaning and organizing effect of the Savior's love each and every day. It is a joy and a blessing to feel His love and the resulting gratitude that is recorded in my heart toward Him. Yes, it is worth EVERY effort and sacrifice to obtain this joy.
