So we've had a few warm days, and it's got me thinking of spring prematurely... looking ahead to April and remembering the fun that we had last year...
It was still a little bit chilly when we had our first outdoor activity last spring, putting to use our fire pit for the first time of the year! We did it up right though, we got everything out for a good, hearty picnic and then we roasted our hotdogs over the fire and enjoyed the warmth it produced. Some of us weren't tough enough to eat our whole meal outside, but it was great to be able to be outside enjoying the good weather and some great family time. We even found some marshmallows and chocolate and made s'mores!
Breanna has become quite a cook. This year she earned a cupcake making kit. This particular kit made several adorable snowman. She worked independently on the project and was very pleased to show off the finished results.
One fun experience we had last spring was a visit to a farm where they had just recently gotten baby chicks. Each of the kids was privileged to be able to hold a fuzzy little chicken. They were soft and ever so tiny. They were also very busy little bodies, scratching and running around under the heat lamp.
April 20, I was surprised at church, to be called up to the stand. Once there the bishop presented me with a medal for my service in scouting as the cubmaster. I was awarded the On My Honor medallion. I wasn't sure what I had done to deserve it, but I am pleased to have that a small reminder of the time I have spent in the cubbing program.
It seems that as the weather warms up our camera always gets a little more use. Outdoor pictures are way more fun to take with green grass and signs of growth. I love the talents that my children have with the camera. They did a little photo session out on the lawn, and came away with some wonderful shots of each other.
Through the Easter holiday, our family decided to spend one of the days at the temple. With Charity now being 12 that left only one of us still too young to go inside. We worked it out that the older kids and their dad would go inside and serve the Lord doing baptisms for the dead. While they were there Breanna and I visited the bookstore, picked up food for a picnic and then just walked quietly around the temple grounds enjoying the peace and tranquility that is there.
It was a great day, though a little on the chilly side. After going to the temple, we took our picnic supplies and went down to the campground where we found a picnic table in a semi sheltered area. Then we huddled around it as we enjoyed sandwiches and salads and of course chocolate milk. It was really too cold to linger or even explore so it wasn't our most fun filled picnic ever.
However for some reason, Naomi ended up with two pairs of glasses on her face. Now that's what I call double vision! I love the antics of my kids that are just enough to bring a smile to my face, but harmless in every other way. They are so fun to be around. I love our family days!
This was a month that was filled with outdoor activities, picnics, new experiences together as a family, and of course the regular every day stuff that we do anyway. I think my favorite month of the year is of course April. It may have something to do with my birthday falling in the month, but I truly love the new life that always begins to show in April. I love the tender shoots of the crocuses and daffodils and tulips. I love those first timid blossoms which sometimes have to peek through a layer of snow to be seen. I love the warmer weather, the lighter jackets, and the longer days. I get spring fever, a condition that I look forward to having every year. I love to be outside after a spring rain storm when the fresh clean smell of the earth lingers in the air. Spring also always reminds me of the promise of life after death. I am so thankful for this time of year and all the wonders, and promises that it holds.
