Last fall, when President and Sister Nelson was supposed to come to our area and speak to us the week following General Conference [but ended up doing a broadcast instead], Sister Nelson told us of the great opposition that the various speakers at General Conference had to face as they prepared their messages. It makes me think that there is a story of struggle behind every one of those talks.
Since then, I have noticed that there are times in my life when opposition is mounting, and usually, it is when I am doing something to teach the truths of the family structure. I have taught six firesides over the last year on Strengthening Family Ties, and almost unfailingly prior to each fireside, I have to deal with increased lethargy, lack of motivation, extra responsibilities, a drain on my time, and general opposition. I have managed to still prepare and teach those firesides and I have been so richly blessed in the process. I don't know if the content and material I present are changing the lives of my ward members, but I know that for me - it has been a strengthening and rewarding process of learning. I am so thankful for this opportunity to learn and share those family truths that bring joy to my heart.
