This year my birthday fell on a holiday... which has never happened before to my knowledge. The kids were home from school which was super nice. My kids made this year extra special by giving me a gift of time and love... They went to work in the yard in an area I've wanted to cleaned up and develop for a while now. We knew that rain was expected in the afternoon so we got up early and went to work. Myles had already been at it for an hour when everyone else joined him.
This was the project.... rip out the dog kennel and clean it up for further development! Add to that yard clean up and we had lots to do!

You can actually see the raspberries (clean up project) in this picture as well.
This is what it looked like the week before the project as indicated by the yellow arrow. After 4 hours of work it was much improved...
The newly cleaned out area as indicated by the pink arrow above.
As you can see in the close up, the weather brought not only rain, but we also got snow, and not pictured above was the pea sized hail that lasted for about 10 minutes.
Myles has been working like a trooper in developing the area since that day. He has planted 2 of four posts and the beautification project is progressing nicely.

The girls spent much of their time cleaning out the raspberry patch. They did a great job cutting and disposing of raspberry canes. Everyone else worked on yard clean up. We only worked until noon but the kids certainly gave me a great birthday gift.

This is the raspberry patch (along the fence) after it has been cleaned out. Unfortunately there are clumps of grass growing in there but I'm working on getting rid of them.
While all this work was taking place my visiting teachers brought me a giant banana cream pie for my birthday. What special and sweet ladies they are.

I didn't get it dished perfectly, but it was delicious!
The day after the snow my flowers went into full bloom! What a wonderful birthday wish!
I love it outside. I love how in the springtime things that look dead come to life, and not only do they turn green, but they thrill the eye with wondrous colors, shapes and sizes. The variety of what spring has to offer is delightful and I never tire of it. My family offers me joy that is just as diverse and delightful. I am so grateful to have chosen to be a 'Mom' first and foremost above all else. I am so grateful to be blessed with kids that are so willing to work together to give me a birthday gift that money cannot buy. A gift from the heart, a gift of love and time. A gift that will be a special memory for the rest of my life.
My husband and children are my garden - filled with smiles and laughter. As I walk through this garden of happiness each day, I can't help but feel joy fill my heart.
